Issue Description:

I'm getting different error results on Linux compared to Apple platforms. Here is a minimal example (file attached):

import Foundation

let data = "<blah //>".data(using: .utf8)!
let parser = XMLParser(data: data)
print(parser.parse())
// Prints 2 on Apple platforms
// Prints 7 on Linux
print("Column: \(parser.columnNumber)")
